Neurodivergent Student Orientation Program

Preparing for University Success - Semester 1, 2025

A 2-day event to support your transition to the University of Newcastle.

Date: Monday 10 and Tuesday 11 February 2025

Time: 10.00am - 2.00pm

Location: Brennan Room, Shortland Union Building, Callaghan Campus

What will be provided: Morning or afternoon tea and lunch on both days and a Welcome Student Starter Pack

Who should attend? This event is open to students who identify as Neurodivergent and who want to get off to a great start in Semester 1 2025. A family member or support person is welcome to attend.

What will be covered?

Day 1

  • A neurodivergent student will share their experience of University

  • Activity: Develop a Student Wellbeing and Success Plan with University Counsellors

  • Academic Learning Support will help you plan for academic success

  • Learn about how to navigate and get the most out of Library services

  • Meet the University Vice-Chancellor, Professor Alex Zelinsky and enjoy afternoon tea

Day 2

  • A neurodivergent student will present Student basics - what you need to know

  • AccessAbility staff will tell you more about support available including Peer Support Programs

  • Enjoy morning tea with your peers

  • Activity: Develop your support network with University Counsellors

  • A representative from the University Student Association will tell you about their services and support

  • Meet neurodivergent staff and enjoy lunch

  • Current neurodivergent students will take you on a customised campus tour. There is an option to participate in a library tour at the end of the campus tour, for those who have time.
